One particular customer was finding his manufacturing of annunciator panels was plagued with delays and rework. The root of the problem was the chronic misalignment of board-mounted LEDs. It was a difficult task to get 20-30 LEDs to be centered in the windows of his graphic overlay, and time-consuming to go back in to tweak the offenders.
GGI International was asked to suggest a better way to assure true LED alignment. We took careful study of the issues. Next, we recommended a design that eliminated the customer's biggest headache and also yielded extra bonuses.
GGI International redesigned the annunciator panel so that the LEDs would now be integrated into our custom overlay. Using automatic pick and place equipment, GGI could position the LEDs with amazing precision, regardless of the number needed. Our customer now only needed to peel and stick our "Smart Overlay" and plug in a flexible tail. Simple, efficient and fast!
And the bonuses? Without the LEDs, our customer freed up space on his board to handle other added functions. He also saved cost on his metal fabrication that no longer required all those LED holes. The light pipes were eliminated from his BOM.
More? GGI International's embossed overlay allowed for greater off-axis viewing, and included a shield layer... plus the entire front panel was now sealed from dust intrusion.
