Integration

GGI International can successfully integrate a touch screen panel within a membrane keypad based user interface assembly. The image below depicts the standard construction of a resistive based solution (constructions having fewer layers also exist). This is a relatively thin option and lends itself well to this type of integration. When thinking of integrating a touch screen it is important to involve GGI International early on in the process and we will be sure to propose and guide you towards the best solution for your application within budget and schedule.

  1. Gasket (optional)
  2. Conductive Polyester (ITO)
  3. Adhesive spacer / Spacer dots
  4. Conductive Polyester (ITO)
  5. Optical adhesive
  6. Chemically strengthened glass panel
  7. Gasket (optional)

Typical thickness: excluding gasket is 0.050" to 0.100".
The front view representation of this type of touch screen would be as follows:

(Ax,Ay) = Overall dimension of the screen.
(Bx,By) = Dimension of the viewing area.
(Cx,Cy) = Dimension of the active area.
(Dx,Dy) = Position of the circuit tail.

GGI International offers you the following options when thinking of integrating touch screen technology:

  1. Full turn key assembly and management of the complete user interface.
  2. Design and complete manufacturing of the user interface assembly with allowance for a touch screen to be integrated thereafter by the customer.

Situation 1): A GGI project leader will be assigned to the program. The client will typically decide the preferred type of touch screen for the particular application. We will then proceed to the design cycle covering all mechanical and electrical aspects.

BENEFITS:

  • Complete assembly from one single source, GGI International
  • Ensures the proper mechanical fit of all components within the assembly
  • Experienced Design & Engineering staff
  • Possible cost savings dealing with one single source

Example of a touch screen/ membrane based user interface assembly:

  1. Touch Screen
  2. Back Plate
  3. LCD Display
  4. Complete membrane switch keypad

Situation 2): If a touch screen display will be integrated into a membrane based user interface assembly by the client and not directly by GGI International, the type of screen to be used must be provided to GGI International.
Minimum information required:

  • Total thickness (including adhesive gasket if necessary)
  • Overall dimension of the screen
  • Dimension of the viewing area
  • Dimension of the active area
  • Position of the active area related to the overall dimension
  • Position and length of the circuit tail
