OVERVIEW: The shielding layer is typically located above the active circuit layer, therefore underneath the graphic overlay. GGI International has a wide variety of shielding options available and will recommend the one most suitable for your application.

MAIN FUNCTION:
The shielding is a conductive element integrated into the membrane keypad assembly. It has the following functions:
- To channel the potentially harmful electrostatic discharge (ESD) away from the electronic components
- To protect internal electronics from radiofrequency interference (RFI) or electromagnetic interference (EMI)
- To reduce or eliminate RFI/EMI by reflection or absorption
AREAS OF USE: Shielding can protect the keypad in the following ways:
- Complete protection of the membrane keypad, including LCD windows and LED windows
- Complete protection of the membrane keypad, including LCD windows but excluding LED windows
- Complete protection of the surface of the membrane keypad, excluding LCD and LED windows
- Selective protection of LCD windows
GGI International makes it possible for you to combine various shielding options on a common surface. For example, the combination of selective shielding of an LCD window with the complete shielding of the keypad surface.
Careful attention and evaluation is required in order to select the most effective and cost efficient type of shielding for your particular application. GGI International has a wealth of experience in this area and will recommend the best option for your project.
