Graphic Overlays - Insertable Legend

OVERVIEW
GGI International offers you an economical way to use a common keypad assembly platform, with the flexibility of interchangeable graphics. Indeed, insertable legends make it possible to equip a generic keypad with various graphic characteristics cost effectively. When used in a generic keypad, the various insertable legends make it possible to modify the language, logos, key assignments or LED functions.

TYPE OF INSERTION: Insertion of the legend strip can be achieved either through the edge or the rear of the membrane keypad assembly.

Type of insertion Advantages Disadvantages
Edge The legend can be replaced, regardless of whether the keypad is assembled to the housing or not The opening for the insertable legend is a potential entry point for contaminants and moisture
Ease of design The edge access should be protected by the housing in order to avoid potential vandalism
Rear Once the membrane keypad is assembled to the housing, access to the legend is therefore protected from access and vandalism and prevents an entry path for contaminants or moisture The insertable legends cannot be replaced on site without disassembly of the keypad from the housing

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:
The interchangeable legends must comply with certain basic mechanical characteristics as depicted in green (see image).

GGI International highly recommends the application of these basic rules when considering using interchangeable legends in your keypad assembly.

  1. 0.075" = absolute minimum distance between the edge of the legend and the edge of the membrane keypad
  2. 0.050" = recommended minimum distance between the end of the legend strip and the edges of the printed window
  3. 0.025" = recommended minimum distance between the top of the legend strip and the top edge of the printed window
  4. Dotted line in the illustration indicates the entry area for the insertable legend in the membrane keypad assembly
