Backplate Support - Specifications
Whether the backplate is manufactured by GGI International or not, you will be requested to provide us with certain specifications in order to ensure proper mechanical concordance with the keypad assembly. Typical questions for the following scenarios:
- Manufacture of the backplate by GGI International
- Raw material: most common are aluminum, stainless steel, polycarbonate and acrylic.
- Thickness: expressed in millimetres, inches or gauge, and compliant with standard thicknesses.
- Surface finish: electrolysed, anodised, painted, etc.
- Colour: specific colour or the raw material's basic colour.
- Type of fasteners and serial numbers: screws, pins, spacers, pems, etc.
- Specific positions: detailed mechanical drawing including all hardware
- Tolerances: by default, set at ±0.010"
- Deliverables: membrane switch keypad delivered by GGI International and assembled to the backplate (optional)
- Design of the keypad according to an existing backplate or a backplate manufactured by the customer
- Raw material and surface finish: GGI International will select compatible rear adhesive.
- Detailed mechanical drawing: showing the various plate openings, hardware, surface finishes, etc.
- Recess depth: if necessary, a backplate cross-section view, showing the depth of the recess in which the keypad will be installed.
- Tolerances: by default, set at ±0.010"
- Deliverables: membrane switch keypad delivered assembled to the backplate (optional)
MANUFACTURING NOTES
- The position of the pems and the spacers (taking into account the plate perimeter or openings) must comply with the standards set by the component manufacturer. A pem or a spacer placed too close to an opening can result in a deformation of the backplate and, consequently, creating an uneven surface for proper keypad adhesion. This type of defect can impact the proper functioning of certain key switches.
- The head of the various pems or spacers must be flush with or countersunk to the surface of the backplate where the keypad will be installed.
- In instances where the heads of pems or spacers cannot be countersunk to the surface of the backplate, GGI International will provide relief in its keypad layers. In cases where the backplate is not manufactured by GGI International, this type of information is imperative to the proper functioning of the assembly.
