Varied configurations: The circuit can take several configurations, according to the desired result. Here are three basic configurations.

  • Digital with 4 selections: This configuration is used for multidirectional movement applications that point to 4 or 8 directions. It is also used for 4 distinct contact points, similar to the computer mouse technology on the market.
    Example: Directional control towards the cardinal points.
  • Digital on 360 degrees: This configuration is used for applications which require the utmost degree of directional resolution and programming design.
    Example: Temperature control.
  • Analog on 360 degrees: This configuration is used for applications which require an analog contact.
    Example: Volume control.

Why and when should you choose an analog control on 360 degrees over a digital control on 360 degrees?

  • When a high degree of positioning accuracy is required.
  • When an A/D port (analog to digital) is available from the microprocessor.
  • When the number of traces available for the connection is limited to 3.
  • When it is possible to create and use a specific analog firmware.

Extremely lean construction: The membrane keypads using Thincoder will have a minimal thickness under 0.090", including the graphic overlay.

Auto-centering: The design of the MAGNAMOUSE is such that no involuntary movement of the cursor can occur.

High lifespan: More than one million possible activations.

Durability and reliability: The MAGNAMOUSE is maintenance-free, as no mechanical element can wear out or break. It is ideal for environments where trackballs and tactile pads cannot operate.

Integration of multiple technologies: With the use of the MAGNAMOUSE, GGI International allows the easy integration of a large array of components in the membrane keypad, such as:

  • Duraswitch Pushgate keys.
  • Keys activated by metal domes.
  • Non-tactile keys.
  • Duraswitch Thincoder controls.
  • Integration with circuit boards, by potentially increasing the available real estate and by providing greater flexibility at the design level.
  • Optional backlighting available.
  • Optional shielding available.
  • Optional increased sealing available.
  • etc...

Large variety of available knobs: The control knobs can take several forms and be custom-made according to your needs.

Low cost: The use of Thincoder makes it possible to reduce the manufacturing costs, thanks to the reduced component cost. Integration eliminates the secondary assembly processes.
